This week I have officially started training for my half-marathon coming up at the end of May. I am a little behind schedule because of my ankle injury, but I have had some great relief from going to physio and I got the go-ahead to start easing back into running. What “easing in” means within the context of training for a half marathon that is less than 2 months away… I’m not too sure. However, it’s happening and I’m excited about that!
As I start clocking in the Kilometers in the coming weeks, I also need to start working on a good running playlist. I usually just listen to songza while I run, but I don’t always find that the stations work for me. I know there are a lot of people who swear by certain types of songs or music genres to keep them pushing right until the end of their runs. If that is you, then I need your help! Even if you don’t run, but have some great high energy, motivational favourites, I want to know about them!
Please, leave me some suggestions for your favorite running or exercise music!
What is your powersong?
I Want it All – Karmin
Work Bitch – Britney Spears

I listen to a lot of techno/trance music. DJ Tiesto in particular, but there’s also Ferry Corsten who is excellent. As for individual songs, there’s a bunch:
Call me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen
Closer – NIN
Feel So Close – Calvin Harris
Get Lucky – Daft Punk
Head Like A Hole – NIN
Man In Motion – St Elmo’s Fire soundtrack
Pompeii- Bastille
Raise Your Glass – Pink
Ready Steady Go – Oakenfold
Toca Me – Fragma
Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff – Deadmau5

A techno woman who loves deadmau5… A woman after my man’s heart 😉. I’ve heard of many of those, and I love them for running!

Oh, and Mo Kenney’s album “In my Dreams” is my current new favorite for kick-ass music but it probably isn’t that great for fast RUNNING 😉

I don’t usually listen to music when I run, but if I do I tend to go with something by David Guetta or Calvin Harris, or something along those lines. I think I read/heard somewhere that it’s good to listen to music with a beat that matches the pace you’re running at (but I don’t know if that’s actually true or not). Good luck with training!
