Injury, Really?

Yesterday I ran 10k in the morning and I did some really good, Lon stretchin afterwards. I felt really good and my knee wasn’t sore at all. By mid afternoon, the lateral side of my left ankle, just posterior to the maleolus started hurting. I didn’t think too much of it, as I’ve had this pain before. 

I went to the fitness class at TKD and with the running and challenges we did there, I began noticing the pain getting worse. By the end of that class, I couldn’t run properly without pain. Being the stubborn person that I am, I stayed for the adult TKD class, took it easy with the running, and made sure to ice the area well when I got home. 

This morning the area is still hurting, making it difficult to walk without pain. Even though I wanted to run my 5k for today, I opted not to.

Is this my first official running injury, and if so, what is it?  Why now, when I’m trying to catch up?  I don’t want to take a break from running and exercising!

Tonight I will go to TKD and get back to taping my foot properly. I’ll see if that makes a difference. 

I am so upset about this right now!

  1. I can’t help diagnose, but I know what a bummer injury is!

    I’ve been on and off running since September and more than anything I just want to get back to where I was. So frustrating.

        1. I had a massage and chiro appointment today. The chiro said that there is a bursa on the lateral aspect of the anke where all the fibular ligaments pass over. It is easy for that to get irritated, especially when there is too much pronation (like I have been having with my arch problems on that foot). Back to taping for bare foot sports, ice and NSAIDS. Hopefully that’s all it is!
