So, I know it’s hard to solicit hair advice from blogger friends when you have no idea what I look like. But here it goes…
I have very thick, curly, somewhat coarse hair. I’m Italian, and I have that kind of hair that will always frizz unless I soak it in Product. Currently, I wear a style that looks like this:
The pros: I think it looks good when I actually take the time to style it. It is generally low-maintenance enough when I wash my hair to style it nicely.
The cons: in the winter, I always have to straighten it because I have to wear a hat outside. If I wear it curly (which is easier) I have to re-wet and scrunch it every morning and washing it every day just dries it out – so not an option. When I’m in surgery and I wear a scrub cap – that’s the end of my hair for the day… It has to stay covered up. It is too short to put in a ponytail, and it would take a lot of effort to re-style it in the middle of the day.
So, I’ve been toying with the idea of cutting my hair super short… Like, this short:
My hair appointment is tonight, and of course, I’m getting cold feet. What if if looks bad? What if I hate it? I know it’s hair and it will grow back eventually… But then, what if it is amazing?! What if it’s the best thing ever and it first into my lifestyle so well? These are so many things that I just don’t know.
The last time I made a decision in my life (and it was a bigger decision than a haircut) I think fear and comfort dominated a lot of the decision making process. Maybe this time I can let fear and uncertainty take a back seat and just take the plunge…
What would you do? Have you ever cut your hair drastically and either loved it or hated it?
My best friend had the longest, curliest, biggest shock of red hair I have ever seen. I’ll admit I had a girl crush on her hair. A few weeks ago, she cut it all off.. just like the photo you showed of Halle Berry.
I wasn’t sure about her cutting off her hair, but she looks amazing!!!! (Scroll through my FB and you’ll see who I’m talking about.)
I say do it. It’s only hair, it’ll grow back! (And no, I’ve never cut my hair that short, I’m too chicken)

Yes this is true and was the case with my friend. Still, better than nothing I suppose.

I know a lot of people who have made drastic (to them) cuts up to what you have pictured and they wished they had done it sooner.
How have you felt when you have worn your hair up before? I don’t like my hair up so I won’t go very short.

If my hair was long enough for a ponytail, I would wear it that way all the time.

I once cut off all of my hair in my dorm bathroom when I was in college. (My hair was almost to my belly button and I cut it up past my chin.) I actually ended up liking it more than I thought I would and kept my hair that was for a little bit and then grew it out again. Didn’t regret it at all! Like you said, the worst that happens if you don’t like your new hair is that you’ll grow it out for a few months. 🙂

Well, it seems like most people are saying they think I’ll love it! Thanks for the advice!

I have thick curly hair and I wear it like the first picture. It’s actually longer now than it has been in years. I’ve been as short as the second picture, and my bones are too sharp to pull it off. I’ll keep it above my neck and below my ears for a while this time. I don’t have to worry about wearing winter hats, though, so I might feel differently and keep it uber short in the cold months if that were the case.

I wore mine like Sharon Stone’s cut in The Muse, but I’ve grown it out again to save on color and cuts. I use to say “once you have boy hair you can never go back”, but you can. With all the great styling products it is so easy to have a great short style. I say go for it, it’s just hair and it grows 24 hours a day:)
