The Tale of Two Scarves

Two ScarvesI made two scarves recently: A knitted green scarf, and a purple crocheted scarf.  The green scarf took weeks to make (partly because I am a slow knitter) and the purple one only took a few hours.  I started making the green scarf with the intention of giving it to a friend for Christmas and while I was making it, I stumbled across the beautiful yarn and pattern that I used to make the purple one.  I didn’t let myself start the purple one until the green one was done because I worried I would like the purple one too much and would never finish the green one.

The green scarf is an infinity scarf, long enough to wrap at least two, if not three times around.  The purple one is shorter and can really only be wrapped once, maybe twice.  They are both so different – one is more plain and simple, and the other is a little more “girly(?)”  Unfortunately, I really like them both and I don’t know what to do about it!  The problem I have now is that I don’t know which one to give to my friend for Christmas. You see, I’ve never actually seen her wear a scarf before and it could be for one of two reasons: Either she doesn’t like scarves, or she just hasn’t found one that she likes enough.  I’m going with option two…

So, with that in mind, I have to be certain I pick the scarf that she will like the best.  She’s not an overly “girly/frilly” kind of person, which is why I picked the pattern for the green scarf in the first place.  But, I know that I would wear both of them, and I’d like to think that she’s a lot like me (or I’m a lot like her), so she would probably like both of them too.  I then worry, however, that she might just not like scarves at all, in which case, if I’m going to convert her, I need to give her a really nice scarf that she will really like.

So here are my options:
1. Go with what was originally planned – give her the green scarf.
2. Opt for the “girlier” scarf, with the hopes that she’d like it more – give her the purple scarf.
3. Giver her both scarves! (She will probably think that I over-did it, though).

I am really leaning towards option #3, but I just don’t know for sure.  The only downside to #3 is that I would have to make an extra scarf, to replace this one that is supposed to be another christmas gift.  Fortunately, these scarves only take a few hours to make, and everyone else to whom I was planning on giving a scarf really likes scarves!  I guess the only other downside to #3 is that she might really think I gave her too much and I don’t want her to feel bad.  Regardless, Christmas is the season for giving, so why not just get into the spirit “whole hog?”

What scarf would you choose?  Would you give both if you could?
