…and all I could do was drink a tall glass of wine.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the end of Medical School. CaRMS starts tomorrow. CaRMS stands for the Canadian Residency Matching Service. You hear about it on the first day of Med School and you dread it from then on. In order to get a residency position in Canada, you have to go through CaRMS. There is a system similar to it in the US, and I won’t pretend to understand how they are similar or different or whatever, but all I know is that tomorrow marks the beginning of a journey that I don’t know if I’m ready to start.
CaRMS means writing personal statements and letters of interest, requesting reference letters, submitting “documents,” choosing programs, submitting applications, accepting interviews, attending interviews around the country, ranking all your choices, hoping that programs rank you as desirable, submitting lists to a huge and complicated computer algorithm, and finally being offered a spot to do the residency program you want to do (hopefully). This year CaRMS ends on March 5, 2014.
6 months.
In 6 months I will know my fate. WIll it be O&G? (probably). Will it be where I want it to be? (I hope so). In the meantime, let the games begin.
(But let me finish my wine, first)
Good luck!
